The results of the 2016 Top Producers Survey reflect a year of booming business for loan officers, both in terms of the dollar volume and number of loans reported by each loan officer, as well as the tremendous response to the survey itself.

Many of this year's top producers cited focused, strategic work with military veterans as a reason for their success, as well as specific, face-to-face conversations and relationship-building with existing clients and leads.

Overall, mortgage industry volume in 2015 was $1.49 trillion according to the Mortgage Bankers Association, up nearly 18% from $1.26 trillion in 2014.

Information submitted about 2015 loan production was used to compile this year’s Top Producer Rankings. In addition to the questions about applicants’ loan volume, there were five questions designed for applicants to discuss the strategies that make them successful. These questions will serve as the basis for future profiles and other content that features this year’s Top Producers.

There were 24 loan officers who produced more than 500 units for the year, or more than 42 per month on average, and three loan officers who closed more than 1000. The previous year, there were seven originators with more than 500 units, though none broke 700.

National Mortgage News began its annual loan officer rankings in 1999, with production data covering origination volume from 1998.

A new segment of this year's list will be revealed each business day, beginning March 1, and the list below will be updated with links when each segment is published. In addition, the top 150 are featured in a special section of the March print edition of National Mortgage News.
